Special arrangements have been made at the Amma Mandapam bathing ghat in Srirangam in connection with the Aadi Perukku festival on Monday for the benefit of people who are expected to throng in good numbers to take a holy dip in the Cauvery and perform rituals.

Barricades have been erected at Amma Mandapam where bins have been placed to enable devotees drop their old clothes. Provision has been made for men and women to change their clothes in separate rooms at the bathing ghat where a posse of police personnel would be deployed for crowd management and as a security measure.

Drinking water tanks have been installed to supply protected drinking water to people thronging the bathing ghat where sanitary workers have been deployed to clear garbage and other waste materials.

Surveillance cameras have been installed at vantage points in Amma Mandapam as a security measure. Police sources said over 500 police personnel would be deployed at Amma Mandapam and Aiyyalaman bathing ghats.

The Government Chief Whip R. Manoharan, Mayor A. Jaya and Srirangam MLA Valarmathi accompanied by corporation officials inspected the Amma Mandapam bathing ghat on Sunday to supervise the special arrangements being made by the civic body.
