JODHPUR: Coming to the rescue of Indian Railways and scores of passenger and goods trains, Army engineers from Konark Corps commenced restoration of railway services between Jodhpur and Bhuj. The railway line connecting Jodhpur to Bhuj, which has traffic of 12 passenger and 45 goods trains was rendered dysfunctional between Dhanera and Ramsan due to soil erosion caused by incessant rain.

The defence spokesperson said that based on request from railways and civil administration after an emergency meeting with railway officials, Jodhpur-based Konark Corps promptly dispatched two engineer task forces mobilised from Jodhpur and Udaipur to restore the severely damaged railway line connecting Jodhpur and Bhuj, near Dhanera and Ramsan. The Konark Engineers responded to the emergency swiftly, moving through the night from far off military stations and have already started the restoration work required to resuscitate the railway line which happens to be the lifeline for the remote villages.
The team consists of about 35 personnel and has pressed into service two dozers immediately along with the earth moving equipment of the railways. The restoration work involves moving huge quantity of earth to plug the breach.
