PALANPUR: The death toll due to last week's floods in Banaskantha has touched 35, said union minister of state for home Haribhai Chaudhary on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference, Chaudhary said besides human casualties, over 13,000 cattle have also died.
Chaudhary along with minister of state for agriculure Mohan Kundariya visited some of the flood-hit talukas of the district and held a review meeting with local officials.
"Vast tracts in Babhar, Suigam, Tharad, Vav and Lakhani talukas are still underwater," he said.
Thirteen teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 200 army men, 257 jawans of Border Security Force, four companies State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Five Air Force helicopters were involved in the rescue and relief work. The agencies have rescued around 3,000 people stranded in various areas.
Around 15 lakh food packets in the district so far, Chaudhary said, adding that the government will carry out a detailed survey to assess loss in the region.
