Summer Style: Inside Goop's Latest Collaboration

This article is more than 8 years old.

Summer as sweater weather? Gwyneth Paltrow thinks you'll buy the idea.

You can thank word of mouth. You know how your network turns you onto something? Turns out it was Jerry Seinfeld's wife, Jessica, who raved about New York-based luxury label Ivory Row.

"It's not uncommon for a friend to bring us to new discoveries," says Brittany Weinstein, Goop's head of special projects.

Goop's first collaboration was with Kain in 2013. Paltrow put her stamp of approval on the brand's similar design aesthetic for Ivory Row x Goop.

"It was Goop’s idea to recreate the nostalgic Americana sensibility of classic vintage sweatshirts," explains Pierre Kim, Ivory Row's co-founder.

Except in cashmere. I tested out a sample in the desert heat, and the lightweight material didn't feel stuffy, heavy or sticky — although I don't carry Gwyneth's more lithe frame so felt a little more like a female American football player. Still, I suppose the lifestyle guru is onto something.

The bat sleeve version has rounded shoulders and is cinched at the waist. The patch sleeve sweater carries elbow patches. They're both edited as classic basics retailing for $275 each. Luxury doesn't come cheap, although the curated looks come with online styling advice, like matching with another mutual friend's items a la Stella McCartney.

Over the years, Goop has become even more of a discovery site with heavily edited pages highlighting the adjoining of forces with small names like Ivory Row and brands with more awareness like Michael Kors, In 2014, exclusive holiday packages ran well.

Next up is a capsule collection with a relatively unknown European brand before another big name pairs its name with Goop before the end of the year.
