Last moment decoded: When Yakub Memon made emotional call to his daughter, cursed brother

New Delhi, Aug 1: The lone convict of 1993 Mumbai blasts, Yakub Memon was hanged on Thursday amidst debate that he may not deserve the same. Later his body was handed over to his family who cremated it in the presence of the huge crowd in Mumbai.

Here is the account of some last moments of Yakub before he was hanged. This is the details of the time period when Supreme Court finally rejected his mercy petition at 3 am on Thursday morning and till the time he was hanged at 6:50 am.

One may not be aware that before the hanging, Yakub had made a call to his beloved daughter. The call was arranged by the jail authorities as a part of Yakub's last wish. As per reports, when Yakub called up his 21-year old daughter Zubeida, he got very emotional. Both daughter and father cried before gaining composure to talk.

Yakub enquired about her studies and marriage on the phone. He also urged Zubeida to take care of her mother after he departs from this world.

I had done nothing to bring shame to our family and was punished for the wrongdoing of my brother Tiger, he told his daughter in contemptuous voice.

Yakub was quoted by the TOI as saying on phone, "I wanted to see you getting married and settling down happily, but now I won't be there to see that moment. I am sorry. I haven't done anything which will bring shame to our family. I was never involved in anything. Take care of your mother".

In his last moment, Yakub became nostalgic and remembered the time when he lived happily with his family members in Mahim. Reportedly, his abhorrence to his brother Tiger could be seen on his face when he said that "Allah usey kabhi maaf nahi karega. Kaash ki woh mera bhai na hota".

Not only that he also asked a final apology to jail inmates and authorities for inconvenience to them.

A TOI report says that Yakub has left a will mentioning daughter Zubeida alone. Whom the will has been handed over that is still not clear though it is believed that brother Suleiman may have recived it.

Reportedly, when jail authorities was accompanying him for the hanging he suddenly saw his brother Suleiman somewhere. He (Yakub) cried before saying him that please take care of my wife and daughter.
