MCBS student to represent Oman in DSS Apprenticeship Program


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) organiser of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) has announced names of the 20 students who will take part in the global edition of the DSS Apprenticeship Program 2015.

Tahani al Malki from Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) will represent Oman in the longest running destination-marketing internship programme stated a press release.

Speaking about Tahani's success Sauda Hamdun marketing executive MCBS said 'We are extremely glad that Tahani al Malki has earned a spot in the tenth edition of the DSS Apprenticeship Program which provides essential and hands-on training for students to develop a solid understanding of various industries.

'As a diligent and hardworking student we know that she will make a mark for herself at this internship programme.' The 2015 edition will see first-time participants like India Russia and China joining other countries such as Iraq Jordan Saudi Arabia Kuwait Lebanon Libya Morocco Yemen Oman Palestine Qatar Sudan Syria Tunisia Bahrain Egypt  and UAE.

Over 100 universities from across 20 countries were invited to nominate their top students to participate in the educational initiative named the 'Best Educational Program in the World' in 2014 by the International Festivals & Events Association. Organised in collaboration with The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) the internship will be held from August 3 to 16 this year.

Each of the 20 winners will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Dubai including return flights and a two-week stay at EAHM – one of the world's leading hospitality business management schools and part of Jumeirah Group a luxury hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding.

The screening process for the programme began with each participating university nominating its top six senior students from marketing business administration travel and tourism event management and finance streams.

Each nominated student was then requested to write an original and well-researched essay on the topic 'What would you do differently for DSS 2015 in terms of promoting and positioning this event for your local market if you were assigned the position of Chief Marketing Officer for DSS'

In her winning essay Tahani wrote: 'As Chief Marketing Officer for DSS I would like to organise a DSS talent show competition. 'With the 'Oman Talent Show' we will find unique talent to represent Oman in DSS. We will give the participating audience various branded DSS marketing materials like T-shirts and cupcakes.

'In addition to the talent show we can also do short video advertisements to be shown alongside popular movie trailers in cinema houses.' The submissions were evaluated by a jury comprising senior DFRE executives and other marketing professionals on the basis of quality of writing and thoroughness in completing the required nomination documents.

A high degree of ambition and potential to make valuable contributions for the betterment of DSS were other important factors that were taken into consideration by the jury before they shortlisted the winners the press release added.

Laila Suhail CEO DFRE said 'Through her winning essay Tahani demonstrated her unique ability to meticulously organise her thoughts on paper in addition to her attention to detail and thoroughness – key traits that we look out for in our apprentices. We believe her skills will be put to great use during the programme and we look forward to hearing more of her interesting ideas during her time with us in Dubai.'

During the internship the students will also be invited to attend a number of workshops key DSS events and explore the city. The apprentices will also benefit from close interactions with highly qualified industry professionals.

Since its inception in 2006 the DSS Apprenticeship Program has become an institution growing from two participating countries in its first edition to 17 in 2014. Over the past decade the programme has given close to 100 young marketers the opportunity to work on one of the biggest tourism events and marketing success stories of the Arab world it added.<
