RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - It’s a season of produce bounty at farmers markets, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture says they play an important role in North Carolina’s farm-to-table food network.
Farmers markets are open Sunday in Raleigh, Asheville, Colfax and Charlotte.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says the week starting Sunday is “National Farmers Market Week.” It’s the 16th year the USDA honored the role that farmers markets play in offering consumers fresh, affordable, convenient, and healthy products from local producers.
Supporting farmers markets is a part of the USDA’s policy.
