Asserting that any attempt to alter the distinct identity of Kashmir would be unacceptable to Kashmiris, Hurriyat Conference (M) Saturday cleared that “Kashmir was an internationally recognized disputed territory and any attempt to change the regional, demographic, constitutional or legal status of this territory would amount to serious violation of international law.”In a statement to KNS a spokesman of the Hurriyat (M) said that any such step attempted by India would be met with full resistance by the people of Kashmir.Responding to the New Delhi’s plan to bring Kashmir under Central Statistical Act to render the State Statistical Act ineffective, he said, “Local puppet governments, for their petty political and personal gains, have from time to time collaborated with New Delhi to work for the complete merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India, the ultimate design of New Delhi. These puppet governments have always colluded with New Delhi to hand over the control of Kashmir’s natural resources including water to India which has turned Kashmiris dependent on Indian alms.”

The spokesman said that Jammu and Kashmir being a recognized disputed territory on the agenda of United Nations, “India has no authority to alter demographic, legal or constitutional position of this territory.”:Kashmiris would resist the New Delhi’s plan to settle retired Army soldiers in Kashmir which is aimed to change the demographic status of Kashmir. Be it PDP or National Conference, both have colluded with New Delhi to change the unique identity and Muslim majority character of Kashmir besides giving New Delhi control of Kashmir’s natural resources. These parties have never kept the interests of Kashmiries before them and have always worked for their personal gains with lust for power,” he claimed. The spokesman said the Hurriyat (M) has always worked in the interest of people and represented their political aspirations and emotions and will continue to do so.
