Shakir Rashaan recaps 'Power': 3 moves ahead, Angela gets played

Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and Kanan (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) on Power.

Hello,I'm Shakir Rashaan, and I'm a male erotic romance and mystery author for Strebor Books/Simon & Schuster and a regular contributor to the Happy Ever After blog! You can normally find me on my regular blog, Manly Musings, but I'm devoting some extra time to recapping episodes of Starz's hit show, Power.

OK, remember when I said last episode that there was time to breathe?

I hope you got your breathing in, because the next few episodes, starting with this one, are going to have you holding your breath until the season finale. Seriously!

So, in my normal fashion, let's get started, shall we?

If you recall my affinity for playing a good game of chess, then you realize that things are really starting to get good between Angela and Ghost. With this episode, it got even better.

Angela cloned Ghost's phone in a play to try to see what he was up to, and to figure out if he truly is Ghost. She got more than she bargained for, and then some. Lobos managed to get in touch with Ghost to meet about something big, but the codes that Ghost and Lobos used have her confused as to when and where they were meeting. She tries to follow Ghost, only to get caught while talking to him on the phone, tipping Ghost off that Angela might be up to something.

Angela (Lela Loren) on Power.

Speaking of chess moves, Kanan is back in the mix. Now that he's back in town, he squeezes Shawn for information, chastising him about his relationship with Tasha, trying to get him to understand that he isn't seeing the big picture: that it was his "dear Uncle G" and the woman he was falling for that put his father behind bars in the first place. Armed with this information, Shawn makes a decision that could change the course of everyone's lives.

Kanan continues to make the play for the takeover of Ghost's and Tommy's network, getting Ruiz, Drizzy and Vladimir to side with him against Ghost and Tommy, using his new-found information of the secret meeting with Lobos to crash the meeting, tell Lobos that Ghost and Tommy no longer have the distribution capabilities they once had, and that he can move his product with his newly formed network.

I wonder what Ghost and Tommy will have to say about that.

Ghost has his own big decision to make, too. In the earlier meeting that Angela tried to follow Ghost to, Lobos makes the ultimate sales pitch: to have Ghost run his North American operations while Lobos gets out of the game for good, having Ghost at the top of the drug chain, with his connections in Texas and California reporting directly to Ghost.

And for the next big twist of the season: While Angela was unable to get to Ghost on that meeting, she was able to figure out the code of where the big meeting would be, calling Greg to let him know that the task forces were going to the wrong place. She texts him a picture of Tommy (who they still assume is Ghost) at the correct location, which spurs the task force to storm the area and arrest Tommy and Lobos, with the unfortunate casualty being the death of Lobos' lover.

Shawn (Sinqua Walls) and Ghost (Omari Hardwick) on Power.

But, as Angela tried to figure out, what happened to Ghost? She saw him go into the building, too, presumably to meet up with Lobos, so where did he go? She frantically calls him, getting voice mail each time, and eventually gives up, frustrated by the lack of response.

She finally hears from Ghost later in the evening as she's leaving from a celebratory gathering among the task force, only it's from a different cell phone. He leaves the message that he had run into some craziness at Truth, and in the midst of it, something went wrong with his phone, so he got a new one.

Checkmate! Next game, your first move, Angela!

Of course, as always, I'm not telling everything that happened in this episode, but here's some of the more interesting questions to take into the next episode:

• Does Shawn have it in him to turn on Ghost?

• Now that Lobos and "Ghost" have been caught and brought in for questioning, what does this mean for Ghost and Angela?

• Is Tasha still considering leaving Ghost, or is she considering a new "normal"?

We're getting closer to the finale! Things are getting really good! Tune in to Starz at 9 p.m. ET next Saturday to see what happens next!
