Irish communications technology company VoiceSage is the subject of a potential takeover by US business communications company Cameo Global, the Sunday Independent understands.

VoiceSage has been backed by former Bank of Ireland governor Richard Burrows and George Sisk.

The mooted deal is potentially worth in excess of €20m, a source said, based on an upfront payment and the potential for further payment if VoiceSage meets targets.

Cameo Global chairman Benjamin Stockton confirmed to the Sunday Independent that his company is interested in establishing a presence here.

"On balance I am hopeful that we will end up doing some business in Ireland over the near term," Stockton said.

He said he could not "confirm or disconfirm" that his company was interested in VoiceSage, citing confidentiality reasons.

"We have looked at Ireland and we believe there must be a lot of good opportunities there due to the good infrastructure, favourable governmental policies, high educational achievement of the population, and an internationalist perspective, though it is also a smallish market on a global ranking," Stockton said.

"The specificity that you are seeking about any deals that we are in or would like to be in at the moment is not something I can comment upon. What I can say is that our mergers and acquisitions department presently has two letters of intent issued to two different companies in two different parts of the world."

A VoiceSage spokeswoman said there is "nothing to discuss/comment on at the moment".
