H.D. Revanna, Janata Dal (Secular) leader, on Saturday accused the Hassan district administration of not bothering to respond to farmers’ suicides in the district.
Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners had not visited the families of any farmer, who had committed suicide in the district, so far.
Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Revanna said that more than a month had elapsed since Krishne Gowda of Channarayapatna taluk committing suicide. In spite of collecting the requisite details about the incident from his family members, the district administration had not released the relief to them, so far. “Why so much delay in providing relief to eligible families. Mr. Krishne Gowda committed suicide after receiving repeated notices from banks for repayment of loans.
If the district administration had stopped the bank from issuing such notices, he would not have committed suicide,” Mr. Revanna said.
Sukanya, wife of Mr. Krishne Gowda, and her son were present at the press conference. Further, he alleged that there was rampant corruption in the office of the Assistant Commissioner in Hassan. “Many files are pending in the office as they do not move unless the touts are paid. The officials concerned have to take strict measures to ensure that the problems of common people are addressed promptly. I will soon complain to higher officials in this regard,” he said.
