Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Saturday announced a financial assistance of Rs. 6 lakh and a monthly aid of Rs. 6,000 to ailing actor and folk artist Paravai Muniyamma.

The money would be released from the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Trust, which would also take care of the medical bills of the private hospital in Madurai where Ms. Muniyamma is currently under treatment, a party release said.

The actor, who is living in penury, has a large family to take care of. Ms. Jayalalithaa, who read news reports about the actor’s financial condition, sanctioned the funds immediately.

Paravai Muniyamma, who shot into fame with her role in Tamil film Dhool , has acted in several films including Kadal Sadugudu , Kasethan Kadavulada and Maan Karathe . She has also given over 2,000 folk performances on stage.
