Lahore - Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal met with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Major General Asghar Nawaz on Saturday and discussed flood situation, protective measures and relief activities here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief secretary said regular monitoring of river flows and weather conditions was being ensured, while relief activities were under way in the flood-hit areas. All resources were being utilised for helping the flood affectees, he added.
Gondal appreciated the army, administration and departments concerned in playing active role in the wake of floods. He said the members of cabinet committee and secretaries of different departments were regularly overseeing relief activities and protective measures in districts. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) DG Jawad Akram was also present in the meeting.
Earlier, the chief secretary chaired a high-level meeting to review dengue control measures at the Committee Room of Management and Professional Development Department. Addressing the meeting, he directed that strict implementation of instructions issued in connection with dengue control be ensured. Awareness regarding dengue should be enhanced as people’s cooperation is of significant importance in the efforts to eradicate dengue, he stressed.
He ordered the departments of Auqaf and Minority Affairs to take special measures in mosques and other worship places regarding dengue control. In order to fulfil the responsibilities assigned to eradicate dengue, heads of departments should review performance regularly and conduct field visits, he added.
Additional Chief Secretary Syed Mubashir Raza, secretaries of different departments, KEMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Faisal Masood, Dengue Consultant Dr Waseem Akram, and other officers attended the meeting.
