Tributes to the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam continued to pour in from different organisations and forums.

The Regional Centre for Arts and Culture on Wednesday paid a musical tribute to Kalam with students of the District Government Music School paying a musical tribute at the school in Srirangam on Wednesday.

About 30 teachers, students and artistes took part in the programme.

They recited songs in praise of Dr. Kalam. R. Gunasekaran, Deputy Director, Arts and Culture, also paid homage to the former president.

Condolence meetings, silent marches and floral tributes were organised in different parts of the district, including educational institutions.

In a condolence message, S. Sethuraman, president, Indian Medical Association, Tiruchi branch, said Kalam’s demise was a great loss to the nation and medical fraternity. He always wanted to provide treatment to the needy at an affordable cost.

The light weight callipers developed by him in association with the doctors helped the polio patients to enable free mobility.

He was the one, who got the idea that defence related research materials could be used to make life of the less privileged people meaningful.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peramaippu has decided to down shutters for a day on Thursday.

In a statement, Ve. Govindarajulu, State treasurer, said the traders should join with thousands of mourners by closing their business establishments.
