The Manapparai bus stand will be rebuilt soon and a temporary bus stand would be established at the cattle shandy grounds in the town.

The municipality has taken steps for providing basic amenities at the grounds for the temporary bus stand.

As the temporary bus stand will function on the shandy grounds for about one year from now, the municipality has been making all arrangements for parking of buses, the entry and exit points, toilets, and drainage.

Officials said only a portion of the sprawling cattle shandy ground would be used for the temporary bus stand. About one acre of land would be used for the temporary facility and the weekly cattle shandy would continue to be held in the remaining area of the ground.

“First, we have to level the ground with the earth and quality red-loam soil, as the area had been long used for the cattle and sale of livestock-related material such as fodder, bells and coir,” an official source told The Hindu on Tuesday.

With the State government having issued a new directive that separate facility should be provided at the bus stands for breastfeeding mothers, “We have incorporated this facility at the temporary bus stand,” said the source.

In all probability, the bus stand would be shifted before August 15.

Adequate care had been taken for the movement of passengers and buses during the rainy season, as the monsoon would set in a couple of months, sources said.
