Zafar Agha, Acting Chairman of National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (MCMEI), on Saturday suggested enacting a strong law to check the collection of capitation fee by minority institutions.
He told presspersons here on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the MCMEI and the Confederation of Minority Educational Institutions of Tamil Nadu that there were reports that a section of minority medical institutions had been demanding huge capitation fee from the candidates of their own communities.
It was against the basic fundamentals and privileges enjoyed by the minority institutions.
It would affect the targeted people, who want to get higher education.
Mr. Agha said the Supreme Court, on some occasions, had lashed out at the collection of exorbitant capitation fee by a few minority educational institutions. The State Government and the Centre should amend the law or enact a fresh law to check collection of capitation fee.
Stating that the State government was doing well in implementing minority welfare schemes and according minority status to the qualified institutions, Mr. Agha said he had received more complaints against the Gujarat and a few other States.
