BJP Kisan Morcha urges Rahul Gandhi to visit Karnataka

August 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 12:38 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha national president Vijaypal Singh Tomar visited the families of some of the farmers who have committed suicide in Mandya district on Friday.

Speaking to reporters later, he said he had appealed to farmers not to resort to suicide under any circumstance. He assured them that the Centre was with them and that several pro-farmer schemes were in the pipeline. He also urged the State government to execute its responsibility towards farmers.

Taking a dig at AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi for not visiting his own party-ruled Karnataka where such suicides have occurred, he said Mr. Gandhi should visit the State to know more about the problems of farmers.

Meanwhile BJP State Kisan Morcha president Araga Jnanendra said the party would organise district-level rallies from August 20 to instil confidence in farmers.

He alleged that the Congress government in the State had distributed compensation to families of only 63 farmers though more than 200 had committed suicide this year.
