Doctor found dead in hospital parking

The body of a 26-year-old doctor was found in a car at a parking lot in Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Saturday morning, said hospital officials.

Initial investigation has suggested that the doctor, who was from Chennai, committed suicide due to a failed love affair, police said. No suicide note, however, was recovered.

Identified as Prakash P., the doctor had joined the hospital two months ago and was working as a radiologist. He was also reportedly seeking treatment for depression at the hospital.

According to police, they were intimated about the incident by hospital staff following which a team was despatched to the spot. Around half a dozen used injection vials were found near his body with marks on the right arm, police said.

“Four visible injection marks have been found on the body. The car was first noticed by the guard at the parking lot around 7.30 a.m. He thought the doctor was waiting for someone. An hour later he got suspicious and after checking realised that something was amiss,” said a senior health official.

The doctor’s colleagues reportedly told the police that he was under depression and was undergoing treatment for the past few years.

Police said the body will be handed over to the family, who may be questioned to seek clarity on the probable cause behind the death.
