Man flees Mohali bank with salon owner's bag containing Rs 1.40L

An unidentified man fled with a salon owner's bag containing Rs 1.40 lakh from Axis Bank in Phase 7, Mohali, on Saturday.Gurjant Singh said in his police complaint, "I had gone to the bank to deposit cash at 11.30am.

MOHALI: An unidentified man fled with a salon owner's bag containing Rs 1.40 lakh from Axis Bank in Phase 7, Mohali, on Saturday.
Gurjant Singh said in his police complaint, "I had gone to the bank to deposit cash at 11.30am. When I was filling a form while standing in queue, a man offered to hold my bag. I acquiesced. At the deposit counter, I was told to fill a permanent account number form, which was available on the first floor.
When I returned with the form, the man had fled along with my bag."
Singh told the police that the man was in his 30s and spoke fluent English.
Mataur SHO Mahesh Saini said, "We have recoded Singh's statement. The footage of CCTV cameras installed in the bank will be scrutinized."
The bank said in a statement, "We urge our customers not to hand over their cash to anybody, except the cashier for deposit. We assure there is no role of our staff in the entire episode."
