MUMBAI:
Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday tweeted about meeting Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Saturday and informing him about Shiv Sena's pet project - distribution of tablet PCs to civic authority run school students to reduce burden of their schoolbags.
However, it has been mocked by the Congress, which said the BMC failed to provide even basic necessities to students and are making tall claims to seek attention.
Aaditya tweeted about his meeting with the prime minister whom he informed about Shiv Sena chief
Udhav Thackeray's education tablet initiative and BMC virtual class. Aaditya, during his meeting with the PM, requested him to interact with BMC school students via the virtual classroom as soon as possible. Mostly, children from financially weak families study in BMC-run schools.
The civic authority provides them with study material and other related item free of cost to encourage them to attend schools.
Earlier, a
Sena leader had said Uddhav Thackeray was very much attached with the tablet project and he wanted to ensure that poor students are not deprived of technology.
"There is a lack of teachers in schools and several school buildings are in bad condition. They are not taking care of it. The civic authority even failed to provide basic items required by the students. The meeting and tall talk about technology is just to remain in the limelight," said city Congress president
Sanjay Nirupam.
This year, the BMC was unable to provide required stuff to student because of technical problem in tendering process. Considering the urgency of the issue, the
municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta had asked his men to directly transfer cash to the student so that they can purchase the require stuff from market. But, the Shiv Sena had opposed it and stalled the decision.
