JNU hostel students raise a stink over garbage dump

“We have been asking JNU authorities to shift the garbage dump since the last one-and-a-half years but our request has fallen on deaf ears. We have written letters to everyone, from the vice-chancellor to the dean of students to the campus development committee, but they keep passing the buck,” said Dileep Kumar, hostel president.

Given the proximity of the dump, the stench of garbage is often unbearable, complain students.

Even the other hostels located nearby — Tapti, Lohit, Koyna, Chandrabhaga and Shipra — are affected by the problem.

But JNU authorities seem to be unclear about exactly whose job it is to shift the garbage dump.
