GUWAHATI: Much to the relief of city commuters, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has set August 15 deadline for the authorities concerned to complete road repair work.
Several roads in different parts of the city have been dug to install pipes for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-assisted Guwahati Water Project. The roads are always left half-repaired with heaps of mud and road materials lying here and there.

This has created unnecessary traffic snarls in several parts of the city. Locals have also lodged several complaints on this and other problems.
The Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner, M Angamuthu, has already issued an order asking various agencies working in the project to complete the repair work in 30 days from the time they start the digging work.
“If the deadline is not met, the administration will be forced to take legal help to sort it out. The issue is about public inconvenience and so we have taken it seriously,” said Angamuthu.
Besides, the agencies have also been asked to inform the executive engineer of public works department (roads) and deputy commissioner of police (traffic) before starting work in a particular area.
“This will help in minimizing the problems of the residents. We have received complaints that the roads are not in proper shape even after repair and so we have asked the PWD engineers to submit technical details of these roads,” he added.
