PATNA: In what is being seen as an election-related exercise, the Bihar government on Saturday effected a major reshuffle of 36 IAS officials, including DMs of 26 districts, and 44 IPS officers, including SPs of 23 districts.
An Election Commission of India (ECI) team is slated to visit the state on August 7 to assess the state’s preparedness to conduct the election likely to be held in October-November this year.
In view of the election, the ECI had earlier directed the state to remove such officers who are directly involved in election-related work and have completed three years on a particular post.
However, the police officers transferred on Saturday include those who were on their posts for less than three years. The SPs of 23 districts, including Rohtas, Bhagalpur, Kaimur, Siwan, Katihar, Saharsa, Madhepura, Madhubani, Sheikhpura, Gopalganj, Khagaria, West Champaran, Araria, Nalanda, Supaul, Sehohar and Arwal have been changed. The Patna SP (City-East), Gaya SP (City), Bhagalpur SP (City) and Muzaffarpur SP (City) have been replaced. So have been the SPs of Bagaha and Naugachhia police districts.
