Colts QB Andrew Luck not worried about his contract after Russell Wilson's new deal

ANDERSON, Ind. - -The focus of the contract status of the quarterbacks taken in the 2012 draft shifted to Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck after Seattle’s Russell Wilson landed an $87.6 million deal Friday that includes $60 million guaranteed.

Luck knows Wilson is now paid well, but he’s not worried about getting a long-term deal yet.

“Hopefully I’ll get a new contract,” Luck joked on report day at Anderson (Indiana) University. “As a sports fan, yeah, you pay attention to the news that comes across the ticker or what have you. As far as it affects how you approach football, I don’t think that’s it at all.”

Don’t expect the Colts the announce a new deal for their franchise quarterback today, tomorrow, next week or even next month.

Owner Jim Irsay eliminated that possibility back in the spring when he said they’ll wait until after this season before working on a deal with Luck. The Colts have already picked up Luck’s fifth-year option, worth $16.1 million.

Luck, who has taken the Colts a step further in the playoffs in each of his three seasons in the league, will likely become the NFL’s highest-paid player.

Luck is 33-15 as a starter and he’s led the Colts to the AFC Championship Game. His 12,957 yards passing are the most by any quarterback in the first three seasons of his career.
