1 dead, 7 injured after string of shootings in Brooklyn

One person was killed and seven others injured in a string of shootings across Brooklyn from Friday evening into early Saturday, authorities said.

The rash of gunplay turned deadly around 1:40 a.m. Saturday when 24-year-old Donnell Smith was murdered at Canarsie housing project in a wild spray of bullets, police said.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Smith lying unresponsive inside a building in the Glenwood Houses along East 56th Street near Avenue H with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.

Police at the scene said they recovered 44 spent rounds of ammo.

Smith, who lived in another building in the sprawling complex, was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

“I heard gunshots, a lot of them,” said Ronald Gressom, a 72-year-old retiree who lives in the development. “It’s crazy to live here like this, shooting all night. I’m afraid in the house. You hear it all hours of the night.”

The fusillade in Canarsie was the crest of a wave of violence that began about six hours earlier, when two women were grazed by bullets near Foster and Albany avenues in East Flatbush, cops said.

In that incident, a 23-year-old woman was nicked on the arm and a second woman, 53, was grazed on the leg when a gunman opened fire near Paerdegat Park around 7:45 p.m Friday, police said.

Both victims suffered minor injuries.

A 29-year-old man was shot in the face around 11:30 p.m. Friday across the street from Amersfort Park on East 38th Street near Avenue I in Flatlands, authorities said.

The victim is listed in stable condition at Kings County Hospital. Police sources say he’s clammed up about the attack.

Three more people were wounded when shots rang out on Parkside Court near Parkside Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens around 2 a.m. Saturday, said cops.

First responders brought two men, 34 and 47, to Kings County Hospital. The 34-year-old man was shot in the leg, and the 47-year-old man was shot in the foot.

Soon after, an 18-year-old woman walked in to the hospital with a wound to the left thigh.

All three victims are expected to survive.

In Coney Island around 3 a.m., a 36-year-old man took a bullet to the hand during a suspected robbery attempt, authorities said.

Three thugs surrounded the victim near West 23rd Street and Neptune Avenue, and demanded his valuables, cops said.

When he resisted, one of the crooks opened fire.

The victim is listed in stable condition at Lutheran Medical Center.

Investigators did not immediately announce arrests in any of the attacks.
