The Rio Olympics kick off August 5, 2016, in the famous Maracana soccer stadium, but events will take place right across the bustling city of some 6.3 million.

Within the park you`ll find:

Capacity 16,000.
Basketball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby.

Capacity 10,000.
Judo, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling. Paralympic boccia.

Capacity 10,000
Fencing, taekwondo, Paralympic judo.
All three arenas are due to be fully built by the third quarter of 2015.

Capacity 19,750.
Tennis, wheelchair tennis, five-a-side football.

Still in Barra de Tijuca, but outside the Olympic Park are several separate venues. These are:
-- Golf Course. Site for the first golf contest in the Olympics for more than a century. Course has capacity for 15,000, with completion due second quarter of 2016.
-- Riocentro convention center (mostly already built)

-- Field hockey, capacity 15,000.

Seven-a-side rugby, modern pentathlon riding and shooting-and-running, seven-a-side football.

One of Rio`s most famous neighborhoods, a center for beach life in the middle of the city, Copacabana will have five Olympic sites.
-- Copacabana stadium (temporary) for beach volleyball, capacity 12,000.
-- Copacabana fort for road cycling, swimming marathon, triathlon and Paralympics triathlon.
-- Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon for Olympics and Paralympics rowing and sprint canoing.
-- Marina da Gloria, capacity 10,000, for sailing.-- Maracana stadium for opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the football finals. Capacity 76,000.
-- Maracanazinho for volleyball, capacity 11,800.
-- Sambodromo, for start and finish of marathon, Olympic and Paralympic archery. Capacity up to 30,000.
-- Joao Havelange Olympic Stadium
Capacity 60,000, including 45,000 temporary places. Olympic and Paralympic athletics.
