Children take pledge to protect tigers in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: Children living in buffer zone of Kanha Reserve Forest took an oath for conservation of tigers and their natural habitats by creating awareness about disadvantages of deforestation. Aide et Action, an international NGO in association with Sir Dorabji Tata Trusts and allied trusts under the Schooling and Learning Improvement Programme organized an awareness session on conservation of tigers on the eve of International Tigers Day on June 29 at Gondwana Bhavan in Garhi village, Baihar block of Bhalaghat district.
B Gayekwad, Ranger – Bhaisanghat (Kanha Tiger Reserve) was the chief guest of the programme.

“Hundred years ago, the number of tigers across the world was around one lakh. But now, we have lost 97 % of wild tigers and currently their number stands at only 3,000,” he said. He discussed why safeguarding tigers is important and various protection methods .

A total of ninety students from six different primary schools in Kukarra, Parsatola Jaamtola, Pateltola, Mana and Takurtola cluster villages of Garhi block participated along with their community teachers . The session was followed by two ten minutes play organized for creating awareness on importance of forest conservation.
