Glyn Baines, 84, is oldest Eisteddfod fine art award winner

An 84-year-old from Gwynedd has become the oldest winner of the National Eisteddfod's Gold Medal for Fine Art.

Glyn Baines, from Bala,was presented with the award for his collection of abstract collages on Saturday at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Meifod, Powys.

He also received a cheque for £5,000.

Mr Baines left his family's farming business in his 30s to pursue his dream of becoming an artist.

He said: "I like to describe my work as a celebration of colour and life.

"There are seven pieces in total and they all mean a lot to me."

This year's National Eisteddfod runs from from 1-8 August.
