BHUBANESWAR: Unidentified miscreants attacked a liquor shop owner and robbed Rs 1.4 lakh from him near Ravi Talkies Square here late on Thursday. The injured, Siba Mohanty, lodged a complaint with Lingaraj police here on Friday.
Mohanty alleged that he was waylaid by two bike-borne goons around 10.45 pm when he was returning home with an employee on his motorcycle.
“One of the goons pulled out a revolver and hit my head with the butt. They snatched my bag containing cash. It was my day’s earning,” said Mohanty, whose liquor shop is located in Ashok Nagar.
Police suspect that the goons followed them after he shut his shop. “We have repeatedly been sensitizing people, mostly businessmen to take adequate precautions while carrying cash. We had also asked them to take the help of police if they carry heavy cash, but people continue to be slack,” said DCP Satyabrata Bhoi. “In the latest case, we are verifying the charges of the complainant,” said Bhoi. While around five liquor vendors were attacked and robbed in Bhubaneswar in 2014, Thursday’s incident is second in the past five months. On February 2, armed criminals shot dead salesman of a liquor shop near Garage Square.
