A tribal woman was brutally axed to death by three youths at Panthulunaik Tanda in Karepalli mandal around midnight on Thursday. The police identified the deceased as G. Kausalya, 38, a kirana store trader of Panthulunaik tanda. Sources said that three youths came to her shop and sought some groceries saying they would make the payment later. When Kausalya insisted on immediate payment, the trio turned furious and picked up an argument with her.

One of them, a local youth, allegedly accused Kausalya of selling liquor clandestinely and performing sorcery on a villager, before leaving her shop. The trio allegedly returned a few hours later and axed Kausalya to death late in the night.

The family members of the deceased were away from home when the gruesome incident occurred. Acting on a complaint lodged by the son of the deceased on Friday, the Karepalli police registered a case against the trio and launched an intensive search to nab them.
