QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said on Friday that the law and order situation in the province has been disturbed for a number of years. It was, however, heading towards improvement, he declared.
“Coordination between civil administration and military institutions is yielding significant results,” he added.
He expressed these views while presiding over a high-level meeting that was organized to review the law and order situation of Makran region. Progress of ongoing development schemes and review of proposed projects was also conducted.
CM Balochistan stressed upon restoration of trust of the masses upon law enforcement agencies and reducing distances between security forces and the public. “The authorities concerned should take on board the local notables while taking any action against law violators,” he emphasized. The CM directed early dismantling of ineffective check posts of Levies Force and Police in Makran Division. He also directed that the Levies Force personnel, who had not retaliated when a Levies picket was attacked and set on fire in Nasirabad, should be suspended.
He also directed for submission of comprehensive report regarding missing persons of Makran division at the earliest. The CM also decided that in order to secure the coastal highway it should be declared an “A” area and all religious seminaries in Makran should be scrutinized.
The attendees agreed that strict action should be taken against all unregistered religious seminaries and those involved in illegal activities. This action would be expanded to the entire province.
It was agreed in the meeting that once the Economic Corridor Project completes, it was important that local and foreigner investors could travel and stay in Gwadar without fear. Besides ensuring timely completion of Gwadar City Project, the delegates agreed on formation of the proposed new force comprising 1,100 personnel. They added that support would be sought from the federal government to materialize this Rs2 billion project.
It was decided that stringent security measures would be taken for the security of engineers and the labour force. Particular security measure would be taken for Chinese engineers and staff working on Gwadar Port and other projects. Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Nasser Khan Janjua, Provincial Ministers Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Rehmat Saleh Baloch and Chief Secretary Balochistan Saifullah Chatta attended the meeting.
