Photography contest: winners announced

The organisers of the Lakshmi Machine Works Limited-sponsored DJ Memorial Photography Contest gave away prizes to winners at a function held here on Friday.

A release from the company said that Jagdeep Rajput of Delhi had won the first prize that carried a cash award of Rs. 3 lakh, Babu Thomas of Idukki, Kerala, won the second prize that carried a cash award of Rs. 2.25 lakh and Shivang Mehta of Faridabad, Haryana, won the third prize that carried a cash award of Rs. 1.50 lakh.

The release also said that Ayon Mukherjee of Kolkata, Anup Deodhar of Pune, Yashpal Rathore of Bengaluru, C.R. Sathyanarayana of Bengaluru and Megh Roy Choudhury of Kolkata had won the certificate of merit and cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each.

The company said that around 3,500 people registered online between March 1 and May 31 this year for the third edition of the contest, which had been growing year-on-year to emerge as an annual calendar event in photography.

This year the theme was nature.

A jury panel of B.K. Sinha, M.N. Jayakumar and John Arifin judged the entries and K. Maruthachalam acted as the contest administrator.

Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman and Managing Director, Lakshmi Machine Works Limited, gave away the prizes to the winners. The company had organised the competition in memory of its past Chairman and Managing Director D. Jayavarthanavelu.

Rajyalakshmi Jayavarthanavelu later inaugurated an exhibition of selected photographs. The exhibition will be open for public till August 4 at the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Cultural Centre.
