The district unit of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) and the city-based Bhrashtachar Nirmulan Pariwar urged the district administration to take action against the Block Education Officer of Gokak taluk for allegedly protecting a corrupt school headmaster in the taluk.

Activists of the two organisations, led by NFIW State secretary Pramoda S. Hazare and Pariwar president Sujit Mulgund, staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s here on Friday.

They submitted a memorandum alleging corrupt practices by the headmaster of the Government Primary-High School at Yelapatti, in Gokak taluk. The activists said Ningavva Siddappa Khilari, who had been working as a midday meal worker in the school for 12 years, had knocked the doors of the pariwar recently after failed to prevent the “corrupt” practices by the headmaster Loknath Nayak. She claimed that the headmaster was compromising on the quality of food grains and vegetables. Ms. Khilari was removed from her job recently.

Ms. Khilari approached the BEO of Gokak thrice, between July 27 and 29, only to be denied an audience.

She then approached Pariwar and NFIW members to help her in her fight against corruption at the school.
