Govt resends old council list for governor’s nod
LUCKNOW: Over a month after Governor Ram Naik disapproved five out of nine names recommended by the government for vidhan parishad, it has resent the same five names for Raj Bhawan’s approval.
Naik refused to give his consent for these five candidates saying that he was not satisfied with the selection as most of them were party workers and did not qualify to get nominated for the positions which should be given to eminent persons in the field of literature, art , science, culture and social work.

Speaking to TOI, the governor confirmed that he has received the list sent by the government and five names are the same about whom he had sought details about criminal record and financial impropriety.
When asked about his stand now, Naik said that he would examine the reply of the government and only then can say anything. He however said that he would definitely seek detail report from the income tax department about Sanjay Seth, a local developer and one of the candidates.
Kamlesh Pathak is another controversial name in the list who faces criminal cases. Apart from him, the Raj Bhawan had also objected to the candidature of Abdul Sarfaraz Khan, Rajpal Kashyap and Ranvijay Singh. Those approved by him were Sri Ram Singh Yadav, Lilavati Kushwaha, Ram Vriksha Singh Yadav and Jitendra Yadav, who have already taken oath.
