Athens, GA (PRWEB) July 31, 2015

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia and Peach State Health Plan are teaming up to help stamp out bullying across Georgia through the Girl Scout "Be a Friend First" program. Representatives from Peach State Health Plan presented a $10,000 check for the anti-bullying program, on Thursday, July 30.

"Peach State Health Plan and our parent company, Centene Corporation, are dedicated to raising anti-bullying awareness. We are very proud to partner with the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia on the Be A Friend First anti-bullying program for middle school girls," said Debra Peterson-Smith, vice president of operations, Peach State Health Plan.

Be a Friend First (BFF) is a program geared toward middle school-aged girls that guides them in building healthy relationship skills and facilitates open discussion and anti-bullying role play. Sometimes, when girls stand up for one another, the bullying stops immediately. Like, within 10 seconds! BFF gives girls the tools to feel safe at school, online, and everywhere in between.

BFF teaches girls to recognize bullying, how to resolve conflicts, boost their confidence, to be a better friend, to have better friends and to find the right words to stop bullying—once and for all.

"Girl Scout values are based on friendship, individual responsibility and mutual respect. These values leave no room for bullying behavior. Our partnership with Peach State Health Plan will allow us to reach out to more Georgia girls, helping them understand their true value, develop healthy relationships, and identify and avoid unhealthy ones. We're grateful for this opportunity to impact the lives of more girls," said Cheryl Legette, chief operating officer of Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.

Girl Scouts is for every girl, everywhere- where today's girls can become tomorrow's leaders. We are the preeminent leadership development organization for girls in the world. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. For more information please visit: http://www.gshg.org.
