BHOPAL: The Congress on Friday made a scathing attack on Sanjay Singh, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's brother-in-law, for helping a rape accused and buying green belt land by evading stamp duty to the tune of lakhs of rupees. Congress has demanded an detailed inquiry and FIR into the matter. BJP has refuted the charges.
Addressing a press conference, Congress chief spokesperson K K Mishra presented documental evidences against Sanjay Singh alleging that chief minister's brother-in-law had supported and helped a rape accused Manoj Nema of Balaghat, for vested interests.
Mishra said that Nema was involved in Chandori sex scandal in Balaghat district. A case was registered in Waraseoni police station in May 2012. th then CSP Pravin Bhuria had sent three notices to Nema to surrender before the police, but Sanjay Singh used his political influence and Nema became government witness.
Taking advantage of the relations, Sanjay Singh later purchased 3510 square feet of land situated in green belt of Mangalam Colony of Balaghat, at a throwaway price of Rs 4.25 lakh. The market value of this land was Rs 80 lakh at the time of purchase. Thus, Sanjay Singh evaded stamp duty on this land and paid only Rs 42,000 incurring heavy loss to the state's exchequer.
Mishra said that Sanjay Singh is named as Sanjay Masani in the documents having residence in 120-B, Azad Ward, Balaghat. Incidently, he actually lives in Gondia, in Maharashtra. Mishra demanded a fair inquiry into both the cases and an FIR against Sanjay Singh and Manoj Nema at the earliest possible.
Refuting charges of Congress, BJP said that Congress has a tendency to level bogus allegation with the help of fake documents. BJP state vice-president Vijayendra Singh Sisodia said that Mishra is famous for his drama and this seems to a part of it. He rejected all the allegations levelled by the Congress.
