Heavy rainfall in West Bengal as cyclonic storm 'Komen' turns into deep depression over Bangladesh

New Delhi, Jul 31 (UNI) Cyclonic storm ' Komen' developed into a deep depression over Bangladesh moving westward and lay centred at 1430 hrs over the neighbouring country near latitude 23.1 degrees north and longitude 89.8 degrees east, about 70 km southeast of Jessore, according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The storm, which left four dead in Bangladesh, moved west-north westwards and will further weaken into a well marked low pressure during the next 24 hours . Rainfall occurred at most places with heavy to very heavy showers at a few places over the Gangetic West Bengal. Similar weather conditions will be observed on August 1, it said. ''Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls today over north Odisha and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over south Odisha during the period and this will be followed on August 1,'' it said. Rainfall at most spots with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places occurred over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and south Assam.
