India, Bangladesh set to exchange 160 enclaves on border

New Delhi/Dhaka, July 31: India and Bangladesh is set to create history by exchanging 160 enclaves located on their border on Friday midnight.

India-Bangladesh border has been one of the world's most complicated and confusing border disputes, reported BBC.

These enclaves - little land islands belonging to one country and located in the other.

Aroun 50,000 people living in these enclaves will finally gain a proper identity after having remained virtually stateless for six decades.

The enclaves were created in the 18th Century and have endured through British colonial rule and the independence of India and then Bangladesh.

Now the two governments have agreed to swap their enclaves, effectively meaning that the Indian enclaves inside Bangladesh go to Bangladesh while the Bangladeshi ones on this side merge with India.

The exchange of enclaves followed signing of an agreement in Dhaka by India and Bangladesh on June 6 this year.
