BMW will soon replace its Z4 GT3 racer with an all-new contender based on the M6 Coupe. First unveiled last year, the M6 GT3 has been snapped during an unofficial presentation for potential customers and racing teams.
The M6 GT3 weighs less than 1,300kg and uses a transaxle drive concept, 6-speed sequential racing gearbox and a chassis based on the M6 Coupe. The longer wheelbase compared to the old Z4 is expected to significantly improve the car’s handling.
The M6 GT3’s engine is based on the 4.4-litre, V8 engine with twin turbochargers used in the production model. The powertrain featuring dry sump lubrication develops 500bhp which is around 100bhp less than the production model.
BMW has revealed that the M6 GT3 will be allocated to the race teams for 2016 season wherein it will replace the old Z4 GT3.
