PARIS– Willem Dafoe (“The Great Wall”) is set to join Noomi Rapace (“Prometheus”) and Glenn Close (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) in Tommy Wirkola’s (“Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters”) sci-fi action thriller “What Happened to Monday.”
Penned by Kerry Williamson (“Alex Cross”) and Max Botkin (“Robosapien: Rebooted”), “What Happened to Monday” is a dystopian thriller set in a not so distant future, where overpopulation and famine have forced governments to undertake a drastic one-child policy. It turns on seven identical sisters who are being tracked down by the Child Allocation Bureau which enforces a strict family-planning agenda that the sisters outwit by taking turns assuming the identity of one person: Karen Settman.
“What Happened to Monday” is produced by Raffaella Productions’ Raffaella De Laurentiis as well as Vendôme Pictures’ Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi. SND handles international sales while CAA reps domestic distribution rights.

Vendôme Pictures’s Guy Stodel and SND’s Thierry Desmichelle are exec producing. The key crew includes Joseph Hodges, production designer, Jose David Montero, director of photography, Oana Paunescu, costume designer, Giannetto De Rossi, make up designer, and Bryan Jones, VFX supervisor.
“What Happened to Monday” has just started shooting in Bucharest at the Castel Film Studios with Hester Hargett-Aupetit line producing.
Dafoe is repped by CAA and Circle of Confusion.
