Covering face on BHU campus banned
VARANASI: The Banaras Hindu University has banned people moving on the campus with their face covered. A ban has also been imposed on pillion-riding on two-wheelers.
The university administration took the decision in view of the recent crimes on the campus. In one case, a woman proctor of IIT-BHU was looted by masked miscreants on the varsity campus.

Rajesh Singh of BHU’s information and public relation office said apart from restricting movement of people with covered face, the university administration has also decided to completely ban more than two people riding a two-wheeler on the campus and the speed limit has also been fixed as 40 km/hour maximum.
With the implementation of these rules from Thursday morning, the varsity proctorial board personnel launched a checking drive on the BHU premises. However, on the first day of the drive no punitive action was initiated. The protocial board personnel stopped the students, including girls, moving with their face covered and allowed them to go after informing them about the new rules.
The BHU administration took all precautions to avoid any controversy on the decision regarding the restrictions. Singh said nobody was being forced to follow the restriction on covering face inside the university. They are being advised to follow this decision for the safety of all, he said.
The move will help in proper identification of people entering or moving on the campus through the CCTV network. He said that after creating proper awareness about new rules in a few days, the varsity will start taking punitive action as per law against violation of the orders.
