A man has been taken to hospital after being dragged on to a West Sussex railway track by his dog.

The 40-year-old Littlehampton man fell onto the line at West Worthing station, British Transport Police said.

He went into cardiac arrest and was resuscitated before being taken to hospital in Brighton in a serious condition, the ambulance service confirmed.

Police could not confirm reports the man was in a wheelchair.

Emergency services were called at 15:56 BST on Thursday. Trains in the area were disrupted.

BTP said the line reopened at 16:43.

There were delays of 45 minutes to trains between Brighton and Littlehampton until about 19:15 with replacement buses in operation.
