Report: David Price traded to Toronto Blue Jays

Don't look now, but the Toronto Blue Jays might be legitimate American League pennant contenders.

Toronto on Thursday sent prospects Daniel Norris, Jairo Labourt, and Matt Boyd to the Detroit Tigers for ace David Price to go along with their earlier big acquisition of star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

Ahead of Friday's MLB trade deadline, the Blue Jays have drastically bolstered the roster that had posted a 51-51 record thus far and currently sits seven games out of the East division lead and two out of the wild-card race.

Jays starting pitchers have 2.18 strikeouts for every walk allowed this season -- the fourth-lowest ratio in the majors – and joined the party of improving their rotation. Three of the teams in the bottom four -- the Rangers (Cole Hamels), Royals (Johnny Cueto) and now Blue Jays -- attempted to fix that issue this week by trading for veteran starters.

The Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees were among the other teams that had reportedly expressed serious interest in dealing for Price.

The 29-year-old lefthander is a five-time All-Star and won the Cy Young award in 2012 with the Tampa Bay Rays, who traded him to Detroit before last year's deadline.

Since his first full season in the big leagues, in 2010, Price has rated third in the majors among all starters in terms of fWAR, fourth in innings.
