Achievers felicitated

D.A.V. Public School, New Panvel, hosted ‘Abhinandan’ – a felicitation programme, to applaud its meritorious Std X and XII students on June 27. Present at the function were Regional Director, D.A.V, Group of Schools-Western Region, Jose Kurian, and School Principal, Mrs. Jayshree Khandekar.

This year, 64 students securing 10 CGPA in the 10th Boards along with 57 toppers from Std XII of Science and Commerce streams were felicitated.

Bhagya Patil of Std VII, Urvi Joshi of Std VIII and Arya Nadgawandi of Std V received a certificate of excellence for their achievement in National Karate Competition held on April 30 and awarded with a Gold medal.

Shrushti Japtap and Harshvardhan Kale of Std IX, who bagged the 20th and 37th rank in the Elementary Grade Examination 2015, were felicitated for their achievement and so were Atharva Natu of Std X , Ninad Mhatre and Nishi Solanki, toppers of Std XII of the Science and Commerce stream respectively.

As part of the Environment Day Celebration, the students of St. Xavier’s High School, Vapi, prepared colourful and attractive ‘Globes’ using papier mâché.

Billabong High International School, Thane, hosted “Inter School General Knowledge Quiz Competition” on July 27 under the aegis of the Association of ICSE Schools in Maharashtra (AISM). Around 66 ICSE schools participated in this Zonal event. The participating schools came from Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Nasik, Pune, Valsad and Lonavala. The quiz was conducted by well known anchor and Quiz Master Mr.Dyu D’cunha.

The winners of this quiz will participate in the National Finals to be held in Kerala in September 2015.

The winners for the Junior level were Aaditya Shrivastav and Krishna Sharma from Ryan International School, Malad. Runners-up were Raghav Vishwanath and Sumanyu Ghoshal from Lokhandwala Foundation School

The winners for the Senior level were Aaditya Iyer and Abhigyan Ray from Lilavati Bai Podar High School, Santa Cruz, while Malav Shah and Ayush Singh from Jasudben ML School, Khar, came second.

Science, Social Science, Mathematics and Teaching Aid Exhibition was conducted at AECS-1, Tarapur, this month to discern the pivotal role played by all these subjects in the development of human nature and human reason. The Exhibition of the Primary section was inaugurated by B.S.K Raju, Principal AECS-2 and the exhibition of the secondary section by Kalathinathan, Principal, AECS, in the presence of Madan Rao, Principal, AECS-1. The exhibits were judged by a panel of experts from various fields.

This week, AECS-3, Tarapur, organised a special assembly to mourn the demise of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Principal T. Kalathinathan shared his concern over the irreparable loss of the nation and advised the students to treasure Dr. Kalam’s books Wings of Fire , India-2020 and Ignited Minds .

Sanjana Amar Ravjiani, a student of St.Gregorios High School, Chembur, scored 99.25 per cent in ISC (XII-Science). She has secured the third rank in India. Regular study and consistent effort has helped her in getting this score. She is grateful to the school management, Principal and all her teachers for their constant support and encouragement. She had scored 100/100 in Maths and Economics, 99 in English and 98 in Chemistry.

Bhavika Gohil brought laurels to her school Saraswati Vidyalaya, Chembur, by bagging the first prize in the district level drawing competition held in Chembur by the Education department of Maharashtra under Mahamarg Police’s Rasta Suraksha Abhiyaan 2015.

Mumbai-based NGO Vision Rescue, which is the brainchild of entrepreneur Biju Thampi, organised a function at Karnataka Sangh Auditorium, Matunga (W). A musical programme featuring “Benny Dayal and the Funktuation Band” was the main draw. Many distinguished guests including Dr. Harshdeep Kamble, Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration, Maharashtra, and Mr. N.D.Chavan, DCP, Anti-Narcotics, and students from various schools and colleges were also present.

Over 40 students of Std X and 20 students of STD XII of Dr. Antonio Da Silva High School, Dadar (W) attended the programme along with their principal Mrs.S.Gomes. The talk given by the guests stressed on the dangers of drug addiction. A drawing competition was conducted by Mr.Rakesh Soni for Stds V to VIII in which around 200 students participated.

‘Reflections - the Language week’ was celebrated by D.A.V. Public School, Airoli, from July 20 to 24 for Stds I to XII, under the guidance of principal Suruchi Kataria. The objective behind celebrating this week was to inculcate the love for languages in students and to enhance their language proficiency. The themes selected were entertaining and also addressed some burning social issues. Various elimination rounds before the week ensured the total participation of all the students.

The innovative activities conducted throughout the week in languages like English, Hindi, Marathi and Sanskrit included story narration, enacting advertisements, language quiz, turncoat, declamation, skits based on social issues, TV show, radio show, Hindi declamation, mono acting, Mushaira, Group songs in Sanskrit and Marathi, Marathi folk dance, essay writing, Shlok Gayan in Sanskrit, to name a few.
