Australian diving team captain Melissa Wu has claimed a top five finish in the 10m platform final behind North Korea's shock winner Hyang Kuk-kim at the world titles in Russia on Thursday night.
Beijing Olympic silver medallist Wu, 23, had only scraped into the 12-strong final at 11th place at the Kazan pool.
However, the dual Olympian showed her class by threatening the podium in a high-quality final.
Hyang Kuk-kim in the end claimed a surprise gold with 397.05 points ahead of China's highly fancied Qian Ren (388) and Malaysia's Pandelela Pamg (385.05).
Wu finished fifth (364.20).
She booked a women's 10m Rio Olympic berth for Australia by making the final.
Meanwhile, James Connor also sealed a Rio nod for Australia by moving into the men's three-metre springboard final.
Young gun Connor (457.10) nailed his last dive to qualify in 11th for Friday's 12-strong final.
Teammate Grant Nel missed his final dive to tumble from 12th to 16th.
China's Cao Yuan (540.80) is the man to beat.
