Dog carcass in water tank: 56 law students admitted to hospital

July 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

Fifty-six students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College were admitted to Government Kilpauk Hospital after having water from their hostel at Purasawalkam as a dead animal was reportedly discovered in the water tank.

Many experienced giddiness, vomiting and diarrhoea, a senior hospital official said.

A medical team was sent to the college and medicines were distributed to 45 students. Some of them then left for their hometowns.

The other 56 students have been admitted to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition, hospital authorities said.

“A special team has been formed to look after the students and they are under observation. We have also notified Chennai Corporation authorities about the water situation there,” he said.

Three days ago

Ku.Ka. Panchamoorthi, a student who passed out this year, claimed that a dog had fallen in the water tank on the premises three days ago and it was discovered only in the afternoon on Thursday. “Every time there is rain, all the water from the road drains into our hostel premises. We have to place a wooden plank even to get into the hostel,” he said.

Though the hostel has a warden and staff, they do not maintain the premises, he said.
