Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday said that the government would name the proposed Kerala Technological University after former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Mr. Chandy’s announcement came during the course of the debate on the Kerala Technological University Bill in the House. He said Kalam had a long association with Kerala. The pioneering rocket scientist had served for 20 years at the VSSC here. He had an emotional connect with the State and was a model for the younger generation to emulate. He said that a high-level delegation would attend the funeral of the former President. Governor P. Sathashivam; Mr. Chandy; Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan; and Culture Minister P.J. Joseph will be part of the delegation.
