A junior cricket league for the VDCA President’s Cup is being introduced by the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association.

Junior boys and girls make up the teams and play in a league format. Each team will have a mentor, apart from a coach.

“It is a first-of-its-kind and no district association has conducted this type of a tournament so far. The tournament is meant to find new talent and also to provide more opportunities for the players,” VDCA secretary and former Test umpire K. Parthasaradhi said on Friday.

In the tournament commencing on August 1, each team will have seven under-16 boys, five under-14 boys, and four girls. The playing XI will have five under-16 boys, four under-14 boys, and two girls.

The teams, with their mentor and coach in brackets, are: VDCA Gladiators XI (J.K.M. Raju and G.V.N. Rao); VDCA Titanics XI (A.P. Naidu and Ch. Radhakrishna); VDCA Warriors XI (P. Bhogendra Babu and D.R. Srinivas), and VDCA Dolphins XI (G.T. Prasad and K. Kumaraswamy).
