Four in court over bribery, khat

Johannesburg - Four Somali men appeared in Beaufort West Magistrate's Court on Thursday for attempted bribery and possession of khat, Western Cape police said.

The men appeared on Thursday and were remanded, police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said.

Pojie said that the men - aged between 24 and 41 - were arrested by members of the dog unit in the early hours of Sunday morning during a roadblock in Donkin Street, Beaufort West.

In their truck, police allegedly found 460 bundles of khat.

The men then allegedly offered to bribe the police, Pojie said.

He said that the four would appear in court again on Monday.
