A Boulder wildlife rehabilitation organization is helping to heal a tiny black-chinned hummingbird grounded by a fractured right wing.

The bird, named Flit, was brought to the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center because she was unable to fly, the center said.

“Hummingbirds are notoriously sensitive to breaks and difficult to rehabilitate, so we are especially excited to report that Flit’s fracture has already begun to heal and she has started to fly again!” the center said in a Facebook post.

Jenny Bryant, the center’s outreach manager, said the bird came in on Saturday after being found in a driveway.

“We get a small handful of hummingbirds each year and they are really hard to rehab,” Bryant said.

The center says with the help of pain medication, rest and feedings twice an hour, they are hoping Flit will be released in the next week.
